Identify any hydraulic fitting thread in five measured steps.

हाइड्रोलिक थ्रेड की पहचान · English + हिंदी

A bilingual field guide by Padma Lochan Majhi, a hydraulic and mechanical maintenance manager with 16 years in heavy industry. It shows you how to read a fitting with a vernier caliper, a pitch gauge and an angle gauge, then confirm the exact size in reference tables.

  • One repeatable 5-step method. Clean and look, diameter, pitch, taper and flank angle, then seat type.
  • Reference tables for 7 thread families. BSPP, BSPT, NPT, JIC 37°, ORFS, Metric DIN 24° and SAE Flange Code 61/62, with OD and ID in mm.
  • Look-alikes called out. Pitches and seats that are easy to confuse, like BSPT vs NPT and JIC 37° vs SAE 45°.
  • Every instruction in English and Hindi. Technical terms such as OD, TPI and JIC stay in English, as they appear on gauges and catalogues.

One book, two languages एक किताब, दो भाषाएँ

Every instruction in the book is written twice, first in English and then in Hindi. Read whichever line is easier for you. Both say the same thing.

यह किताब हिंदी और इंग्लिश दोनों में है। हर निर्देश दो बार लिखा है, जो भाषा आसान लगे वही पढ़ें। पूरी टीम एक ही किताब से सीख सकती है।

Press one leaf into the thread along its length, covering at least 6–8 threads. Hold it against a light.

एक पत्ती को थ्रेड की लंबाई में दबाकर रखें, कम से कम 6–8 थ्रेड ढकें। रोशनी के सामने देखें।

Technical words such as OD, ID, TPI, BSP and JIC stay in English in both languages, the way they are printed on gauges, catalogues and fittings.

The problem

A caliper reading alone will order the wrong fitting.

Hydraulic threads from different standards share almost the same diameters. Guess from one number and the replacement screws in a few turns, then leaks or strips.

Three threads inside 0.9 mm

Male thread OD on a millimetre scale M26 by 1.5 measures 26.0 millimetres, three quarter inch BSP measures 26.4, and JIC 1 and 1/16 inch measures 26.9. All three fall within 0.9 millimetres. 26.0 26.5 27.0 mm M26×1.5 26.0 3/4″ BSP 26.4 JIC 1-1/16″ 26.9

3/4″ BSPP26.4 mm14 TPI60° cone
JIC 1-1/16″26.9 mm12 UN37° flare

Values from the book's reference tables. Only the pitch and the seat tell these apart.

  • 55° and 60° threads look the same at a glance.1/2″ and 3/4″ BSPT and NPT both have 14 TPI and almost the same OD. Without the flank angle you cannot tell them apart.
  • The wrong pitch leaf can look right.A 1.5 mm leaf can sit on a 16 TPI thread for 2–3 threads and only drift out over 8.
  • Same thread, different seat.JIC 37° and SAE 45° flares, or a 24° DIN cone and a 60° BSP cone, can share threads but leak when mixed.
  • Used threads measure small.Worn threads read 0.1–0.3 mm under the table value, enough to push you to the wrong row.
How the book solves it

Take five readings in a fixed order and write each one down. Together they point to one row in the quick decision chart. Then the family's reference table gives you the exact size from the measured OD or ID.

Key benefits

What you'll be able to do after studying it

OD / ID
Measure the right diameter, the right way.

Use outer jaws on male crests and inner jaws on female crests, take the biggest of 2–3 readings, and match it to the table.

TPI · mm
Tell inch pitch from metric pitch.

Use both gauge sets and the light-gap test, and convert with 25.4 ÷ pitch.

55° · 60°
Separate Whitworth from Unified and metric.

Read crest shape and flank angle, including the BSPT vs NPT case at 1/2″ and 3/4″.

1 : 16
Spot taper threads.

Compare D1 at the first full thread with D2 at the last.

24°–45°
Identify the seat before you mate parts.

Recognise six seat styles and check cones and flares with an angle gauge.

L / S
Pick DIN Light or Heavy series.

Use the tube OD, since the thread alone does not decide it.

C
Tell SAE Code 61 from Code 62 flanges.

Measure the long hole spacing and check it against the dimension tables.

-8
Read dash sizes.

Convert 1/16-inch dash codes to inches, and match chart codes to SAE dash numbers.

What the book does and doesn't promise

It teaches a measuring and identification method. Your results depend on clean parts, careful readings and gauges in good condition. Values come from a hydraulic thread reference chart, and the book itself advises confirming sizes in the fitting manufacturer's catalogue for critical or high-pressure work.

Who should read it

Written for the people who handle the fitting

  • Maintenance fitters and techniciansIdentify a failed hose end or adapter on the machine before ordering the replacement.
  • Hose assembly and workshop staffConfirm thread, seat and dash size before crimping or fitting an end.
  • Stores, spares and purchase teamsTurn a part in hand into a correct size description using the reference tables.
  • Apprentices, trainees and studentsLearn thread vocabulary and a measuring routine with diagrams and worked examples.
  • Supervisors and trainersUse one shared method and record sheet across a team, in English or Hindi.

This eBook is for you if…

  • You have a vernier and a pitch gauge but aren't sure which reading decides what.
  • You've had a "correct size" fitting leak because the seat or flank was different.
  • You work with BSP, JIC, ORFS and metric DIN fittings on the same machines.
  • You or your team prefer instructions in Hindi alongside English. हिंदी में भी पढ़ना चाहते हैं।
  • You want the size tables in one place instead of several catalogues.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

What is this eBook about?

It teaches you to identify hydraulic fitting threads and connections with a vernier caliper, a pitch gauge and an angle gauge. You take five readings, find the thread family in a decision chart, then read the exact size from a reference table.

Who should read it?

Maintenance technicians, fitters, hose assembly staff, spares and purchase teams, trainees and anyone who has to identify a hydraulic fitting before replacing it.

What topics does it cover?

Tools, thread terms, the 5-step method (clean and look, diameter, pitch, taper and flank, seat), a quick decision chart, reference tables for BSPP, BSPT, NPT, JIC 37°, ORFS, Metric DIN 24° and SAE Flange Code 61/62, worked examples, and common mistakes and safety.

Is it in English or Hindi?

Both. Every instruction is written in English and in Hindi. Technical terms such as OD, ID, TPI, BSP and JIC stay in English in both, as they appear on gauges and catalogues.

Is this a digital product?

Yes. It is a 20-page PDF eBook. Nothing is shipped.

How will I receive the eBook after payment?

As soon as your payment is done, you get a download link for the PDF. If the link doesn't appear, email apsflowtech@gmail.com or WhatsApp +91 93370 75555 with your payment reference.
